What are the dates for the Grand Garden Show?

How do I reserve a hotel room?

Grand Hotel is hosting the Grand Garden Show. You can register and reserve your hotel room(s) online from Grand Hotel or by calling 1-800-334-7263.

If Grand Hotel becomes sold out we recommend Hotel Iroquois.

Other fine hotels on the island can be found on the Mackinac Island website.

What is the cost of the Grand Garden Show?

The cost of the 2018 Grand Garden Show is included in your Grand Hotel Package.

Standard Price:  $1,475 per Couple, $1,325 Single, plus tax and fees.

Lakeview Price:  $1,889 per Couple, $1,739 Single, plus tax and fees.

$8.50 per person baggage handling fee. 6% Michigan sales tax and 2% Mackinac Island assessment fee.

*Day Tickets are available for those who do not purchase the Grand Garden Show package. Please note that Day Tickets do not include Grand Hotel accommodations.

What if I register and for some reason can’t come? Can I get a refund?

Individual and group reservations are subject to a 10-day cancellation policy. Reservation deposits will be refunded if cancelled 10 or more days prior to arrival, less a $45 processing fee. Reservations cancelled less than 10 days prior will forfeit the room deposit.

Do I need to register for the break out sessions?

No. Upon arrival you will be assigned to a group for the Monday and Tuesday sessions. Each group will attend all break out sessions on a rotating basis. If you are attending with friends, we will do our best to keep your group in the same rotation.

How do I register for the Grand Garden Show if I am not staying at the Grand Hotel?

You may make alternative hotel reservations at the hotel of your choice. Those can be found at the Mackinac Island website.  You would then purchase day tickets.

Day ticket sales will continue on-site if there is availability.

How do I purchase day tickets?

Please see the Register page.

Will I receive a ticket for the Grand Garden Show?

No. Your Grand Hotel package includes the Grand Garden Show. After you have checked in with the hotel, please see the Proven Winners Registration Desk for your name badge and information packet.

If you have purchased day tickets in advance, you will pick up your name badge and information packet at the Proven Winners Registration desk.

Day ticket sales will continue on-site if there is availability.

Are there additional costs associated with the event?

LUNCH

Lunch is not included in the Grand Garden Show Package.

There is also a choice of four tasty box luncheons. Place your order prior with the Maitre d’Hotel at the entrance to the Main Dining Room by 9:00 p.m. on the previous evening.

CARRIAGE RIDES

Carriage rides will be available for the private garden tours.

TRANSPORTATION TO/FROM THE ISLAND

We highly recommend traveling with our Grand Garden Show sponsor, Shepler’s Mackinac Island Ferry. Shepler’s takes passengers from port to island in less than half an hour.

Receive a discounted ferry rate if you mention that you are attending the Grand Garden Show. There are taxi transfers in the downtown area to the hotel, if staying at Grand Hotel for an additional cost.

Will carriage rides be available for private garden tours?

Carriage rides will be available to the various private garden tours both Monday and Tuesday.

Handicap accessible carriages are available.

You may also choose a private tour aboard one of Mackinac Island Carriage Tours livery carriages. Their knowledgeable drivers can customize the tour just for you.  The livery carriages will seat up to 8 persons and are rented by the hour with a one hour minimum. Will meals or snacks be provided?

A full breakfast and five course dinner, served in the Grand Hotel’s Main Dining Room, are included daily with the Grand Garden Show package.  Lunch and snacks are additional.

Non-Hotel Guests

You don’t need to stay at Grand Hotel to enjoy a Grand Hotel dining experience. Rates for non-hotel guests are as follows: Breakfast $30.00, Luncheon Buffet $45.00 and Dinner $80.00.

 

Are there options for my dietary requirements?

Should you have special dietary requests, please see one of the Grand Hotel Assistant Managers at the Concierge Desk upon arrival so they may work with you regarding your special needs.  You may reference the menus here: Main Dining Room.

What is the dress attire?

Day Attire: Casual

Evening Attire: Grand Hotel experience includes dressing up for dinner. Evening wear is required in all areas of the hotel after 6:30 p.m.

  • Ladies: dress, skirt and blouse or pantsuit.
  • Gentlemen: coat, necktie and dress pants for gentlemen.

No denim please.

What should I bring?

We strongly recommend shoes with a flat sole or walking shoes (the island includes hilly terrain).

We also strongly recommend that you bring a raincoat and an umbrella.

What is the weather like in August at Mackinac Island?

Weather

Mackinac Island enjoys a mild spring, temperate summer and crisp fall temperatures. Since the island is located in the middle of the Straits of Mackinac, weather can be unpredictable. Remember to pack layers and don’t forget your walking shoes.

Maps & Directions

Interstate I-75 brings you to the ferry docks of both Mackinaw City (Lower Peninsula) and St. Ignace (Upper Peninsula). Access to the island can be made from both of these cities. The exits are clearly marked for several miles.

What airports serve the Mackinac Island area?

Pellston Airport  is 25 minutes south of the ferry docks in Mackinaw City.

Lakeshore Express – out of Chicago.

Cherry Capitol Airport in Traverse City  is 2 hours from the ferry docks in Mackinaw City.

Chippewa County International Airport has domestic flights from Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan and is 74 miles from Mackinac Island, MI.

Sault Ste. Marie Airport has domestic flights from Sault Sainte Marie, Canada and is 102 miles from Mackinac Island, MI.

Boyne Mountain Airport has international flights from Boyne Mountain, MI and is 72 miles from Mackinac Island, MI.

How do I get to the Island and where do I park my car?

Grand Hotel and Proven Winners partner with Shepler’s Ferry line.

There are hourly ferries to Mackinac Island from Mackinaw City and St. Ignace. It is recommended that guests arrive a half hour before their desired departure time to allow for unloading and parking time.

How do I rent a Mackinac Island Bicycle?

A great way to get around the Island is by renting a bicycle. Bicycles can be rented at Grand Hotel’s Tennis Shop, located by the pool house. Rental fees are $8/hour, $30 half-day and $45 full day. Three-speed, five-speed, seven-speed cruiser bikes and burly carts are available. Children’s-sized bicycles are free.

There are several places on Mackinac Island to rent bikes by the hour, half day or full day. You can also bring your own bicycle on the ferry for a nominal fee. The Island is a mecca for bike riders with over 70 miles of scenic roads and breathtaking trails. Following a bike tour through the eight-mile perimeter of the Island on picturesque Lake Shore Boulevard is a very popular activity. Bicycles of every size and type imaginable are available. Remember, pedestrians and horses always have the right of way.
